The maiden edition of Na We We Buea Urban Sports Tournament has been launched in Buea. This was during a football duel on Sunday the 28th of July 2024, between Tole United and Bokwaongo FC at Molyko Ominsports Stadium.

The Tournament was opened by the Secretary General of the Southwest Governor’s  Office, Acha Gilbert Nkwenti, on behalf of the Governor of the Southwest Region. Hon Malomba Esembe, the Member of Parliament for Buea Constituency, is the brain behind this tournament. The tournament is aimed at promoting social cohesion, living together, modern talents and to encourage voter registration.

With ecstasy, Hon Malomba Esembe, during the launching ceremony, cautioned the players to practise fairplay throughout the competition amongst others. “What I expect is fair play. It is not only about fine football but it’s fairplay. Secondly, we expect the population of the cosmopolitan Buea Urban population to be one. You know support our teams and remain one people even when our teams are defeated. And of course thirdly we are calling on all those who have not yet registered that the deadline is around the corner August 31st so let us use this opportunity to register. As an MP of the CPDM party of President Paul Biya, we are urging particularly our sympathizers and militants to register so that we give a vote to support our champion”,  Hon Malomba Esembe challenged CPDM Militants.

Tole United in the course of the opening football match defeated Bokwaongo Fc by 2-1. Monoh Solomon, from Tole United after distinguishing himself during the football match with excellent performance was recognized with the sum of 50,000fcfa as the man of the match. The amount was donated by Biaka University Institute of Buea, major sponsor of Na We We Buea Urban Sports.

    Tournament

After receiving the award, Monoh Solomon, while expressing words of gratitude to the MP for Buea Urban Constituency for the organization of the tournament, promised to emerge with the trophy at the end of the tournament. “ We came here purposely to take this cup and we assure you 100 percent that we are going to run this trophy. We are hoping to play to have a first division, second division and a third Division team in Tole and we also want to let the world Know that Tole is great when it comes to football,“ he boasted.

Singe Otto, Technical Adviser of the Chief Executive Officer, Biaka Group, for his part, revealed they decided to support this initiative as major sponsor due to their desire to promote living together in Buea. “So we decided to be the main sponsor of this tournament because we think this is the time we have to encourage the youths to live together and be part of each other. This is the time we know that the youths have to enter the various secondary or Higher Institutions so we need to encourage them so that the Higher Institution that they are going to study I think Biaka, should be their main choice”, he noted.

At the end of the tournament, the winner of the Na We We Buea Urban Sports Tournament shall be recognized with a cash prize of about Two Million Fcfa together with a trophy amongst others.
