The eighth edition of the ICT Summer Camps will take place next August 20-24 in Edea, capital of Sanaga-Maritime in the Littoral region, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications announced in a release dated July 23.
This year’s camps will focus on artificial intelligence (AI), with the theme “Intelligence artificielle :opportunités et défis pour une jeunesse patriotique (Artificial Intelligence: Opportunities and Challenges for a Patriotic Youth.)” The goal is to educate young people about AI’s potential while addressing its associated risks.
According to Minette Libom Li Likeng, Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, “The ICT Summer Camps aim to encourage and develop ICT learning and promote patriotic values on digital platforms, in line with the high directives of the Head of State.”
As in previous editions, the 2024 ICT Camps will gather 1,000 young people aged 10 to 18 from the districts of Edéa 1 and Edéa 2. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in hands-on ICT workshops and learn best practices for staying safe online. The program also includes accommodation, meals, and various recreational activities.
The ICT Summer Camps are part of a Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications initiative to promote digital education. This initiative responds to President Paul Biya’s call for a collective effort to bridge Cameroon’s digital gap. Last year’s edition in Obala, in the Central region, trained approximately 1,400 young people in the use of ICT. This new edition in Edéa aims to continue this effort, with a particular focus on artificial intelligence, a rapidly evolving field with crucial implications for the future.
