Hausas resident in Kumba, Meme Division South West Region of Cameroon, have celebrated the First ever Hausa International Day. The International Day of Hausa is celebrated every July 28. The 2024 edition of the event that took place in front of the Imam’s palace in Kumba 11, attended by the Kumba 11 administration, and non Hausas, provided a unique platform the Hausa to showcase their culture and unique way of life.
The International Day of the Hausas is celebrated every July 28th. But according to the president of the Hausa Youths in Kumba, Mohammed Lawan , for some unexplained reason (s), the celebration has never taken place in Kumba.
Asked who is an Hausa, he stated that an Hausa is one who is known by his unique way of dress, culture, dance, food, behaviour, the way he talks, and interacts with other people in the community.
He also took advantage of the celebration to appeal to Hausa Youths to shun drugs consumption, and other criminal activities. He also appealed to same to embrace President Biya’s call of peaceful coexistence and living together.
Conspicuous in attendance were the Divisional Officer of Kumba 11, Edwin Nkenyang Ngwana, and the First Assistant Deputy Mayor of Kumba 11, Nasiru Awudu Ibrahim. The military presence was equally visible.
