The Kumba City mayor, Gregory Ntemeyork Mewanu, has launched the third ( 3rd edition) of keep your quarter clean”, The Horizon has been informed. According to a communique from the city mayor’s office, registration for the exercise kick-started on Friday 26th July 2024. The City Mayor’s communique failed to explain what it takes for each quarter to register for the competition. There are over 40 quarters in Kumba.
What is certain though is that the exercise will run from Thursday 1st August to Saturday 14th December. Before the final selection, the hygiene and sanitation team of the city council will go around to ensure the quarters observe the modalities laid down by the City Council, among them zero plastics, trimming of trees, flowers overlapping into the streets, keeping of piggeries clean, inspection of latrines. Previous competitions carried juicy prizes for the first, second and third positions. This time around the prizes have not been unveiled.
There are over 40 quarters in Kumba. We observe that since his election as City mayor some four years ago, Gregory Ntemeyork Mewanu, has made the cleanliness of Kumba I of the main priorities of his administration. The Horizon observes Ekemba 1 quarter in Fiango, Kumba II Subdivision, emerged first place in the maiden edition of the competition; Kumba Njuki 1 quarter, Kumba Town, emerged first position in the second edition of the competition that took place last year.
