Bedzigui: What impact for his candidacy?
Célestin Bedzigui, leader of PAL (Parti de l’AllianceLibérale) has announced his intention to run for next year’s presidential election.

Various guests, including Célestin Bedzigui, president of the Parti de l’AllianceLibérale (PAL), discussed the stakes of the 2025 presidential election. Célestin Bedzigui took this opportunity to announce his party’s participation in the October 2025 elections.
“The PAL will participate in the 2025 presidential election. We haven’t done so in the 33 years since we were founded because we have always believed that running for the presidential election, whether for a party or an individual, requires a period of preparation and accumulation of experience”, declared Célestin Bedzigui.
The president of the PAL did not hesitate to criticize young candidates whom he considers insufficiently prepared to run for the presidency. “I do not believe at all in this spontaneous generation that thinks that just after leaving a university campus, one can see oneself as the president of the republic. I find that absolutely horrible”, he added, before positioning himself as a long-standing potential candidate:
“Cameroonians have been waiting for me. I would have been a candidate for many years. I remember once, I amused myself by merging with the UNDP and the backlash was extraordinary. They told me: What is this story? You can be a candidate yourself?”
In an information note published on July 21 on Facebook, Célestin Bedzigui clarified the PAL’s position regarding the candidacy of former bar president AkereMuna. The PAL has decided not to support Akere Muna for the 2025 presidential election.
“The approach of Mr. Akere Muna, who sought the PAL’s endorsement for the 2025 presidential election, did not receive a favorable response”, wrote Bedzigui. He cited “strategic and operational differences” as the main reason for this rejection.
This announcement surprised Akere Muna’s team, notably his spokesperson Paul Mahel, who said he learned of the decision via social media. “We take note”, he briefly commented, recalling his support for Muna during the 2018 campaign.
PAL is thus entering the 2025 presidential race with a clear intention to stand out and offer a credible alternative to Cameroonian voters, while Akere Muna will have to find other support for his candidacy.
