On July 21, President Biden abruptly interrupted his re-election campaign and announced his withdrawal from the race for the White House. In a press release, he declared his support for his Vice President, Kamala Harris. Now officially a presidential candidate, the 59-year-old Harris is preparing to face Donald Trump. Trump, who saw himself easily winning against an aging and declining Joe Biden, will have to adjust his strategy, as Kamala Harris has no intention of backing down. Moreover, it seems that support within his own camp is not as solid as he had hoped.
Indeed, Donald Trump’s own nephew, Fred C. Trump III, has chosen to support Kamala Harris’s candidacy, just a few days after making explosive statements against his uncle. During an appearance on the show The View on Tuesday, July 30, to promote his memoir All in the Family: The Trumps and How We Got This Way, Fred C. Trump shared his thoughts on the upcoming elections with host Joy Behar: “I respect more what is done for the American people than policies that serve governments. Without a doubt, Kamala Harris’s policies are the ones I support. So I will vote for [her].” He drove the point home by stating that “if the opportunity arises, [he] would not hesitate to campaign for Harris.”
These comments follow the publication by Time of an excerpt from Fred C. Trump III’s new memoir, in which he claims that Donald Trump had said that disabled Americans “should just die” because of the “costs” they represent, both for themselves and for the government, as well as their “condition.” Fred C. Trump also accused his uncle of using racist language, including offensive terms, when addressing family members. Donald Trump’s spokesperson, Steven Cheung, called these allegations slanderous.
