H.E. Felix Mbayu was honoured with a “Community Mobilization Icon” award on 25 July 2024 during the maiden edition of the Cameroon English Language Newspaper Publishers’ Association, CENPA, award night that held at the Yaounde Hilton Hotel.
The ceremony was chaired by Secretary General at the Ministry of Communication, Prof Felix Zogo who represented Minister Rene Sadi.

The Award Jury said Mbayu was recognized for his “deserving show of national community leadership in mobilising communities in times of joy and constraints to bond, rebuild & promote inclusive development and national unity”.
Minister Mbayu’s recognition handed to him by the Minister of Posts and Telecommunication, Minette Libom Li Likeng, was unanimously acclaimed as well deserved.
His countless good works aimed at giving back to his community and putting smiles on the face of his fellowman, the latest instance of which was joining three others in offering a vehicle to a handicapped man called Fru Nde who lost his taxi to hoodlums sponsored by some separatists abroad speak volumes for his generosity and community leadership.
His humanitarian work was first noticed when he mobilised funds from friends and peers for the reconstruction of Sacred Heart College, Mankon, his Alma Mater, after some dormitories were razed by fire set by ambaboys in their strive to implement their school boycott agenda. That institution has since become the most secure in the North West. The students of SAHECO benefit yearly from gifts of a fatted cow purchased and slaughtered for them by him.
It was again thanks to his mobilisation acumen that funds to the tune of over 50 million FCFA were raised to provide an ultra-modern bus for PWD Bamenda after the team lost its means of transportation to a fire accident.
In the North West Region where he is one of the most respected elite, Minister Mbayu’s report card of outreach ventures remains unending. He is the elite who has remained open, coming to the rescue of many at every given time.
Over the years, he has been investing millions and donating huge consignment of didactics to boost schooling for many vulnerable kids, especially in the North West Region.
Mbayu has also been the man at the centre of major religious feasts and celebrations for both Christians and Muslim in the North West Region. The impact of his never-seen community outreach is more intense in Bamenda, where he was born and bred.
Affectionately called Abakwa Boy, Mbayu, to many, is the Father Christmas who always comes on board to support with goodies and other community needs when his people run out of energy.
Mbayu demonstrated his leadership, and good heart towards the wellbeing of others when in February this year, he crusaded succoring of victims of the Bamenda Main Market fire disaster.
Thanks to him, other people saw reason to chip in whatever they had that resulted in the raising of more than 75 millions FCFA to support affected traders commence rebuilding their lives.
As if to remove himself from the picture, the money raised was handed to a community, comprising eminent religious figures and other men of integrity to share to victims of the fire accident.
In addition to these moves, he is always present in major community driven initiatives nationwide to support different clans and people to advance their wellbeing.
