UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, was received in audience last Tuesday at exactly 7pm by the President of the Cameroon Human Rights Commission, Prof James Mouangue Kobila.
In an exchange that lasted for about 30 minutes, the UN Human Rights Chief
got acquainted with the activities of the commission on ensuring civil liberties in Cameroon, he revealed to the press.
“We had an exchange on the work of the commission that’s been done here, the partnership and cooperation between the commission and my office and it’s very clear that we need a lot of resources for human rights. That is something we all need everywhere, every time and in all countries.”
As part of his 2-day working visits in Cameroon, he aims to seeki solutions to human rights difficulties in Cameroon.
“I am a friend to Cameroon and to all what’s happening in the country I have had the privilege to talk to authorities, civil society and now the National Commission on Human Rights. Of course we will always discuss on how we can ameliorate the human rights situation, the difficulties and what has been resolved already.”
This is the first visit by High Commissioner Türk to Cameroon and he shall be leaving with an adequate image of human rights conditions in Cameroon.
