IDP FC has once again made Ekona proud. This is as they emerged as winners for 2024 edition of King Edward’s Cup Muea Court Area, for senior men category.
They played against Quarter 9 ( Market Square Upper Muea) and emerged victorious in the course of penalties. This was during a fierce football competition which brought together football lovers from every nook and cranny of Buea and Ekona.
The football competition, which has been held on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at St Andrew Catholic School Field, had as major sponsor Trust Insurance, based in Buea.
IDP FC was awarded a cash prize of One Million Five Hundred Fcfa together with a trophy which was handed over to them by HRM Edward Molinge, the second class Chief of Upper Muea, who is the brain behind this initiative.
HRM Edward Molinge while congratulating IDP FC for their victory called on them to work even harder in order to consolidate their position as winners of this tournament for next year.
“The team that is victorious this season has done everything possible for it to be victorious so I can just say big congratulations to them and they should work hard; they saw how difficult it was because next year it will only be a tougher competition than this one”, he noted.
Meanwhile, Quarter 9 (Market Square Upper Muea) were also rewarded with the sum of Five Hundred Thousand Fcfa, by the manager of Trust Insurance, for making it to the finale.
HRM Molinge Edward equally congratulated Quarter 9 FC on making it to the
finals.
“ To have reached the finals of this competition it means you did everything possible for you to reach. You were conscious of everything that was at stake and can only say congratulations to Market Square Upper Muea, who were the underdogs of this tournament. But at the end of the day they became the finalists. As we know it ended with penalties. And in penalties you never
determine who wins and who loses,” he stated.
Quarter 2 ( Bakery Street Upper Muea ), who for their part, emerged as winners of the junior men category, were equally recognized with a cash prize of Three Hundred Thousand Fcfa.
Alang Francis, team captain of Quarter 2 couldn’t hide feelings as their team emerged victorious in the course of the tournament. He noted that team work was the key to their success.
“The same strategy but more of team spirit and more effort to win the trophy. We were happy that we have finally won”, he emphasized.
King Edward’s Cup Muea Court Area aims at fostering peaceful coexistence amongst the inhabitants of Muea.
In line with school reopening come September, some didactic materials were donated to students who participated in the tournament. This was thanks to benevolence of Mbacharm Clovis, who supported the tournament with the donation of exercise books, pens, pencils amongst others.
The Second Class Chief of Upper Muea, thereby used this opportunity to appeal to students to go back to school.
“It is holiday over now. I am encouraging the students to pick their pens and go back to school like what all of us wished for”, he appealed to the students.
The best players, and chairman of the organising committee were equally recognized with with cash prizes.
For next year this tournament shall witness significant innovations with regards to the prizes just like that of last year.
