Following the embankment rupture on the Bonepoupa-Yabassi road which occurred on 14 August due to heavy rainfall, the Minister of Public Works Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi, has prescribed geotechnical studies to anticipate possible risks.
He handed down this instruction to the Labogenie teams, the internal laboratory at the Ministry of Public Works and the Beta Consult control mission last Thursday, August 15, 2024, during a field visit he undertook to the area in the company of the Secretary of State for Roads and the Governor of the Littoral region. But in the immediate future, it is necessary to continue with the traffic maintenance work undertaken by the Bun’s company, which began in the wake of the embankment failure on August 14, 2024, due to heavy rainfall that flooded the area of the road section, the Public Works Minister said.
The company undertakes to completely restore traffic within thirty days, at the same time geotechnical surveys must be carried out throughout the route to avoid experiencing this type of tragedy or natural phenomenon in the future. The measures that are being considered require knowing the nature of the supporting soil on the 50 ml of the damaged section at kilometer point 2+375 coming from Bonepoupa, the nature of the materials to be put in place and ensuring that the water is properly treated. The company will make a proposal in this regard so that the execution project is validated. The Minister did not fail to congratulate the Governor of the Littoral region for the site security measures, as well as the company for its mobilization which was not long in coming. These are the consequences of known natural phenomena. The road was built according to standards in compliance with the rules of the art, verifiable by the quality of the coating and even the basic structure. The Minister therefore encourages the company and urges it to continue the work. On site, the safety beacons are still visible, the company’s machines too as well as the staff to ensure the continuity of circulation of vehicles of more than 3.5 tons.
