Regular consultant on Equinox TV, Aristide Mono, has escaped two kidnap attempts in Douala, provoking the ire of Maurice Kamto, president of the MRC.
Maurice Kamto, president of the MRC, expresses his support for Aristide Mono, the Equinoxe TV consultant who has been the target of two kidnapping attempts in Douala. In a statement published on Facebook, Maurice Kamto condemned these acts as manifestations of the violence of the current regime. The opposition leader urged Aristide Mono to stay strong in the face of threats, expressing hope in a near future where the rule of law and freedom of expression will prevail in Cameroon.
Following is the Statement from Maurice Kamto
Dear Dr. Aristide MONO, I have learned through social media that you are evidently in the crosshairs of the authorities, whose tragic cases like Martinez ZOGO, Samuel WAZIZI, and many others remind us daily of their extreme violence. In light of this situation, I want to express my support for you, which I am convinced is shared by all the democrats in Cameroon, among whom you have distinguished yourself as one of the valiant standard-bearers.
No matter how long the night, the day will eventually dawn on our country, so that the rule of law, freedom of expression respectful of the law, and the right to the contradiction of ideas may live. It will dawn very soon, in 2025. Stay strong. All Cameroonians, regardless of their political affiliations, are witnesses to the threats you face due to your courageous choice to contribute pedagogically to the awakening of your compatriots’ consciousness, particularly a youth suffocating in an outdated and indifferent political system that prefers to engage in a headlong rush.
Yaoundé, August 18, 2024
Maurice KAMTO,
National President of the MRC.
