The mayor of the Nkambe municipality in the North-West region of Cameroon, Musa Shey Nfor, has expressed his sincere thanks to the Minister of Decentralization and Local Development, Georges Elanga Obam, for the cancellation of a debt amounting to a total of 68 million FCFA.
Mayor Musa expressed his gratitude during a recent visit to the Ministry of Decentralization, noting that the minister is the chairman of the board of Feicom. He highlighted that besides his gratitude, the municipality has significantly benefited from the 100 million FCFA allocated annually by Feicom, which has enabled the completion of around 200 projects since 2019. The most recent project includes the construction of sheds at the Nkambe market.
During the visit, Mayor Musa Shey Nfor was accompanied by the mayors of Wum and Tubah, who also informed Minister Georges Elanga Obam of their respective activities, challenges, and aspirations.
«The mayor of the Tubah municipality, Martin Tanjong, mentioned his desire to launch a presidential project worth 124 million FCFA», stated the ministry in a communiqué. Tanjong also emphasized the need for additional funding from Feicom to address the waste management issue in Tubah, where the population has nearly doubled since the establishment of the University of Bamenda.
The mayor of Wum, Dighambong Anthony, discussed current challenges, particularly regarding access to Wum due to the deteriorating condition of the roads. Despite this, he mentioned that several projects, including the market and the Wum town hall, are nearing completion.
« Buoyed by these positive developments, the three mayors invited the Minister of Decentralization and Local Development to visit their municipalities as part of his field visits », added the ministry’s communiqué.
