Hon. Mbongnyor Naomi Ngando, member of parliament from Donga Mantung,NWR, has strongly condemned the brutal attack that occurred in Sop Village on the night of September 30-October 1, 2024, resulting in the assassination of a couple. The people’s representative coined the act as a show of “barbarism, inhuman, and a grave affront to the values of the community”.
With unconfirmed reports pointing to certain individuals( Mbororos) the MP emphasised the importance of allowing ongoing investigations to uncover the truth. She noted that this is not the first time such tragedies have occurred in Sop Village, despite numerous peace meetings held between local authorities and the administration of Ndu. The continued violence is unacceptable and must be stopped. To her any violent act that does not give way for peace is considered a threat to human cohabitation and should not escape state watchmanship.
She weighed into a call for a thorough investigation to identify, arrest, and hold accountable the perpetrators under the law. She emphasised that such acts of brutality cannot go unpunished and that restoring peace and security in the community is paramount.
The MP extended her deepest condolences to the families of the victims and expressed her solidarity with them during this difficult time. She reiterated her commitment to advocating for the safety and protection of all constituents in Donga Mantung Central (Ndu) Constituency. The recent killings add to many others already in the Northwest either owing to the crisis or to Mbororo clashes. In some small localities in Donga Mantung and Menchum alone pockets of petty inter community “wars” have hitherto threatened peace with efforts of the administration to curb them saluted. However, the recent threats and death only add salt to a grievance whose raison d’etre is yet to meet the physical eyes.
