The President and Founder of the ICT University, Prof Victor Mbarika, has announced an investment of 5 billion FCFA into the Cameroonian economy for the next 10 years.
He made the announcement during the 14th Matriculation ceremony of fresh men of the Institution that took place yesterday October 21st 2024.
Highlighting the various sectors the money will serve, Prof Victor Mbarika stated it will be pumped in the Agricultural, Real Estate and ICT domains. He said :” We are training job creators in Cameroon and not Job seekers. That’s why we support the innovations of students and support their projects. To this light we are going to invest the sum of 5 billion FCFA in the domain of agricultural, Real Estate and ICTs. In the Agricultural sector, for example, we will invest in robotics that will see robots involved in agriculture like in the clearing of farms. That’s what we want to do for the students.”
Prof Victor Mbarika also highlighted that the money would create over 2000 jobs with a main emphasis laid on those youths in the North West and South West who are going through the crisis. He said ” We will create about 500 jobs for the people of the North West and South West who are going through the war in that part of the country.”
For his part, the Rector of the University, Prof Emmanuel Pondi, encouraged the students to be disciplined as they pursue academic excellence. He said: ” In the ICT University we train students to be disciplined and respectful. In as much as we give them rights we ensure that they respect the rules and regulations of the school because there is no success without discipline”.
Prof Emmanuel Pondi also underscored the uniqueness of this batch which is named after the late father of the founder, Prof George Mbarika. He said: “This batch is very unique because it is named after late Prof George Mbarika who passed on recently. So these students are to follow his examples in all aspects.”
One of the matriculating students, Feutgna Frank, told the press he is coming to be an innovator. He said: “I am into the field of software engineering and I want to create what the government or anyone has never created”.
The theme of this year’s matriculation is Quality Education, creating solutions and shaping the future with a call for the students to be examples in discipline and innovations.
The American-style university, the ICT University has commissioned these over 500 students to be the ones to bring the change in this generation.
The ceremony had in attendance top traditional and academic dignitaries who lent their support to the matriculating students.
