The Southwest Regional Delegate for Employment and Vocational Training, Orock Thomas Eyong has been elected as new president of Upper Banyang Cultural and Development Association. He was elected, installed with about twenty others during the UBACDA Revival General Assembly on October 19 th ,2024 in Limbe.
The newly elected UBACDA General Executive Committee was installed by Victor Arrey Nkongho Mengot , minister at the presidency in charge of Special Duties.
The members of the Executive Committee were elected to revamp Upper Banyang Cultural and Development Association, which has been in slumber for the past 17 years as emphasized by Minister Victor Arrey Nkongho Mengot.
“ It is a new beginning. We have been in limbo for the past 17 years. Our well revered Upper Banyang Cultural and Development Association went to slumber 17 good years and we have been moving like people in the dark looking for direction. A spark of light came from somewhere that initiated this idea of revamping and reawakening”, he said.
He went further to urging his brothers and sisters of Upper Banyang Subdivision to practice the virtue of unity. “My message to my brothers and sisters of Upper Banyang Sub Division is for them to seize the moment, to seize the opportunity that has been given to them. This is the time for us to come together knowing well that it is for the good of communities. We are going to reap the benefits of working together”, he urged his brothers and sisters.
Orock Thomas Eyong, after being elected to control the transitional executives of UBACDA for two years, promised to ensure the promotion of cultural and development activities in Upper Banyang Sub Division through the organization of cultural festivals amongst others.
“ I think it is incumbent on us to see how we can promote the cultural and development of the cultural heritage and development activities of our subdivision. It is a division that has a lot of problems and much is expected of us. We are going to do everything possible to make things the
way we can and respect everybody on board”, he promised.
The Divisional Officer of Upper Banyang Sub division, Fongoung Amadou, for his part, called on the newly installed executives to make the education sector their top priority.
“I think they should talk about education as their main priority because during this crisis the highest obstacles we had was getting children go back to school. And we think that they have started on a good footing because they dispatched a team who went on the field and paid the school fees for primary and secondary school students. And this went a long way to encourage parents to send their children to school”, he disclosed.
Upper Banyang Sub division is made up of about 59 villages and 10 clans. The revival general assembly wrapped up with the newly installed executives taking firm commitments
