United States-based education promoter and civil society actor, Fabian Ekukwe Lyonga, has elected to facilitate for free access to education of primary school children of employees of the Cameroon Development Corporation, CDC. Their parents are claiming months of unpaid wages.

Fabian Lyonga, who is founder and President of the Lyonga Institute of Science and Technology, LIST Tiko, announced the good news in a statement issued November 29, 2024.

The development, which comes as a relief to the disgruntled CDC workers who have been protesting months of unpaid wages, takes effect from the ongoing academic year, according to the donor.

The children will study for free at the LIST Academy, located in Tiko, the donor said.

Fabian Lyonga has disclosed that besides the free access to the school, the children will also be offered essential learning materials to ease their stay on the campus.

In his statement announcing the offer, Fabian Lyonga wrote: “In recognition of the immense sacrifices and contributions made by employees of the Cameroon Development Corporation, CDC, to the socio-economic development of our Region and nation, I, Fabian E. Lyonga, a young elite of the community and President of Lyonga Institute of Science and Technology, LIST, am deeply moved by the challenges faced by many families due to unpaid wages”.

He added that: “It is my firm belief that every child has the right to education, regardless of their family’s financial situation. Education is a cornerstone for a brighter future and no child should be deprived of this fundamental right due to circumstances beyond their control”.

He then announced that: “Starting from this academic year, all children of unpaid employees of the CDC, who are of basic education age, are granted free education at the LIST Academy in Tiko”.

Lyonga revealed that: “…the programme will cover tuition fees for the current academic year and counting. Additional resources such as textbooks and uniforms will be provided where possible”.

“Parents/guardians are required to submit proof of their employment status with the CDC, along with documentation of unpaid wages. Applications can be submitted at the LIST Academy’s administrative office in Tiko, along the Tiko-Douala Road,” he continued.

Lyonga has said the initiative reaffirms his institution’s shared responsibility to uplift the community, support families in need, and invest in the leaders of tomorrow.

“It is my hope that this act of solidarity inspires other institutions and individuals to contribute meaningfully to our community’s welfare. Together, we can ensure that no child is left behind,” he also said.

    Who is Fabian Ekukwe Lyonga?

Besides being President of the Lyonga Institute for Science and Technology, LIST, Fabian Ekukwe Lyonga is also a community-oriented leader and a Global Youth Activist.

He represented Cameroon Youths at the 2018 United Nations Economic and Social Council, ECOSOC Youth Forum.

He is a board member of the Pan -African Diaspora Youth Association, PADYA. Over the years, his determination to influence positive change in today’s world order has led him to impact the lives of over six thousand youths in Africa and the world at large through various seminars and career workshops.

As a Pan-Africanist, Fabian Lyonga is a promoter of African culture and diversity. He earned the title of a Tour Operator in 2012, provided by the Cameroon Ministry of Tourism and Leisure.

Since 2015, he has championed and sponsored several events organised for public outreach. In these accomplishments, he realised the desire to see others fulfill their dreams as he had, by enabling changes essential to achieving community empowerment.

He pioneered the Cameroon Christian Youth Fellowship, CCYF to address and prevent local base community and religious disagreements amongst the youth to combat inter-religious feuds in Cameroon and the Sub-Region.

Fabian Lyonga’s quest for positive change has enabled him to collaborate with prominent institutions, the United Nations Offices, African embassies in Cameroon, the US Embassy, Representatives of various international organisations and personalities, such as the 2016 US Vice President Joe Biden, and more.

    Beyond society civil leadership

Aside his civil society umbrella, Fabian Lyonga is equally a tenacious 21st-century emerging politician, an active and entrusted Cameroon political youth leader Serving in the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement CPDM since 2004.

He is also Business Executive, Charismatic Youth Leader, and a visionary. He owns a start-up called Eagle’s World LLC, in the United States of America.

The company promotes Africa as a dream destination, an initiative he developed in 2009, when he registered his first for profit business, Eagle Travel Agency in Cameroon.

His passion to support the growing population of youth in Cameroon led him to become the Founder and President of the United Council for Youth Empowerment, UCYE International, in 2011.

Fabian Lyonga is also the Executive President of the Cameroon Diaspora Youth Network and the Chair of the Cameroon Students’ Union Abroad, a movement he started a few years back to unite Cameroonian youth living in the Diaspora.
