House Speaker, Cavaye Yeguie Djibril, has celebrated the official acquisition of the new National Assembly building which was host to the closing of the November session of Parliament yesterday, 11 December 2024.
He also hailed the adoption of some 13 bills during the session, including the finance bill which he hoped would be well executed by government following its promulgation into law.
Expressing delight at the inauguration of the new building which is a gift from the Chinese government on the red letter day of 30 November 2024, Cavaye said:
“In fact, we have definitely, officially and solemnly taken possession of this brand new National Assembly Complex that now belongs to us and that we are so proud of”.
He used the opportunity to thank those who contributed to the successful construction of edifice, especially President Paul Biya described as the architect of the jewel.
Members of the organising committee as well as the various committees that worked on the project were also congratulated. So too were the authorities of the conference centre to which the National Assembly relocated during sessions for four years.
Assessing the third ordinary session of the National Assembly for the 2024 legislative year , the House Speaker said it was a was a hectic session also characterised by landmark activities like the consideration and adoption of 13 (thirteen) bills, including the very important Finance Bill relating to the State budget of Cameroon for the 2025 financial year.
The 2025 State budget , he said, is balanced in revenue and expenditure at the
sum of seven thousand three hundred and seventeen billion seven hundred million CFA francs as against seven thousand two hundred and seventy-eight billion one hundred million CFA francs for the 2024 financial year, representing an increase of thirty-nine billion six hundred million CFA francs in absolute terms and 0.5% in relative terms.
He was confident that Government had now been endowed with a realistic State budget prepared in accordance with the esteemed guidelines of the Head of State and in consonance with the development objectives of the Republic of Cameroon outlined in the 2025 economic, financial, social and cultural agenda of the Nation.
Cavaye then reiterated that he looked forward to a transparent and peaceful
presidential election in a secure atmosphere in 2025.
He mentioned the adoption of other important bills like the Bill on Local Taxation, the Bill Governing Civil Protection in Cameroon, the Bill relating to Personal Data Protection in Cameroon and the Bill to Organise the Civil Registration System in Cameroon.
Cavaye cautioned against the excesses associated with the celebration of end-of-year feasts, expressing the need for Cameroonians to be cautious and to exercise restraint. He expressed the hope that measures had been put in place by the authorities in charge of maintaining law and order and administrative authorities to pre-empt tragic occurrences during year-end festivities.
Cavaye further exhorted all the stakeholders in public and private transport sectors to be on the alert so as to avoid the carnage on our roads!
