To commemorate the International Anti-Corruption Day on December 9 th , the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Regional Development organized a ceremony to inaugurate 4 denunciation channels to fight corruption in the ministry. The Toll free 1531, WhatsApp
contacts; 653095505/688130728, denunciation box and a website are the various means the Minister, Alamine Ousmane Mey reiterated during his opening speech as the most secure methods to ensure confidentiality and the track down of the perpetrators of the cankerworm in the ministry. This informative and awareness-raising campaign on anti-corruption tools was a way for MINEPAT to reinforce its strategy in the fight by creating a dedicated anti-corruption unit (CELCOR) headed by Mme Mbamband Jael Christine. Talking to the press, she starts by mentioning the main objectives of the awareness campaign:
“We all know that December 9th is the international anti-corruption day. On this day, we gathered to think of how to integrate youths in the fight against corruption to facilitate the integrity of tomorrow. This day was therefore a pretext for the Minister of Economy, Planning and Regional Development to launch an informative and sensitization campaign on the new ethics adopted by the ministry to fight against corruption. We elaborated a mechanism of denunciation and protection of the denunciator because we realized that the fight against corruption starts from denunciation.”
She continues by mentioning the 4 denunciation tools reassuring that everyone will be incognito:
”We have 4 channels, we have the Toll free which is 1531, accessible now at the Camtel platform, orange and MTN will be soon operational, the second tool is through a whatsApp number where we can send evidences of denunciation for the specialized unit to do the rest. The 3r one is the denunciation box where the first has just been installed by the Minister of Economy and the process will continue in the ministry and its devolved services. The 4th is the website which is accessible to everyone and where you can express yourself without any fear because anonymity is preserved,” Mme Mbamband Jael Christine said.
After announcing the already mentioned channels, the next important aspect is the training of MINEPAT personnel to know how to use the various tools, sensitize them on the necessity that these tools hold and ways to keep them. The end results is for the Ministry to ensure the effective implementation of measures earmarked for the fight against corruption prescribed in the Government Plan and eliminate all opportunities of corruption.
