Heads are expected to roll following the submission of the report on the alleged torture of artiste LonguèLonguè in 2019 whose viral video on social media shocked the international community and presented Cameroon as a pariah in torture.
The Observer007 reports that the investigation report by Brigadier General EKONGWESSE Divine Nnoko ,Commander of the 2nd Gendarmerie Region of Littoral, has been deposited at the presidency for Biya’s action.
During his investigation, the General conducted detailed interviews with the involved agents, seeking to understand the ins and outs of this alleged act of violence. The objective was to shed full light on the conditions under which LonguèLonguè was subjected to these degrading treatments and to precisely identify those responsible.
Artist LonguèLonguè, known for his sometimes critical positions towards the government but also for his praise of certain power figures, has not wished to speak publicly about this case. His silence contrasts with the general outcry caused by the video’s release and the multiple calls for justice.
The submission of the report to the Presidency of the Republic is a crucial step. The Ministry of Defense has clearly announced that “responsibilities will be established and consequences drawn based on the investigation results.” This promise comes in a context where transparency and respect for human rights are more scrutinized than ever by national and international public opinion.
