The mayor of the Kumba 1 Subdivisional Council, with headquarters at Njuki, has unveiled the 2025 plan of action for the municipality.
Mayor Prince Barrister Eseme Moses Esembe unveiled his plans for the Kumba 1 municipality on the occasion of the deliberation and adoption of the 2025 budget of that Council that took place at the council chambers on Tuesday 17th December 2024.
In his address the mayor explained that the second ordinary for the year 2024 is intended to deliberate and adopt the 2025 budget of the Kumba 1 Council.
He further stated that the Kumba 1 Council would operate on the budget of 1billion three hundred and thirty four million four hundred and ninety thousand frs.
Mayor Prince Barrister Eseme Moses Esembe said it would be derived from tax revenue, state additional council taxes, local development tax, forest revenue, subvention from Local and Regional authorities, among others.
He further stated that the Kumba 1 Council used 2024 budget to pay staff salaries, maintenance of assets, the purchase of special equipment, the installation of solar street lights, training of some council staff, construction of some classrooms and supply of didactic materials to same, among others.
For the 2025 budget, the mayor explained that the budget would be used for the Constitution of local Housing, extension of water to quarters, construction of two classrooms, administrative block and supply of benches at GS Nkamalikum, purchase of a new dump truck, construction of Youth Employment Centre, supply of equipment to the Kumba Women Empowerment Centre, purchase of a machine to fabricate paved bricks, create roads, and rehabilitate existing ones.
In her intervention, the Second Assistant Senior Divisional Officer of Meme, Njonje Hermia, thanked the mayor and his Councilors for voting an ambitious budget . She appealed to the mayor to register its workers with the National Social Insurance Fund in order that they receive their pension when they go on retirement.
Though there is a lull in the Anglophone crisis, she noted the crisis is still a cause for concern and went on to appeal to the separatists to lay down their arms and join the DDR Center.
After the reading of the various Committee reports , the budget was adopted unopposed..
