The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) has announced new procedures for obtaining the National Identity Card (CNI). From now on, this essential document for many administrative procedures will be easier to obtain and will offer greater security.
CNI enrollment at a police station – DR Cameroonians can now apply online and pay the fee of 10,000 FCFA via mobile money services. After receiving their payment receipt, they must go to an identification post to finalize their application. The CNI will then be issued to them within 48 hours.
In summary, the steps to follow are as follows: Pay 10,000 CFA francs via Orange Money, MTN Money, etc. Obtain a receipt issued by the general tax directorate. Go to a local identification post with your birth certificate, proof of profession, and payment receipt. After 48 hours, you will receive your new CNI, valid for 15 years.
According to the DGSN , the new CNI will be equipped with enhanced security features, making it more difficult to counterfeit. Its validity period, extended to 15 years, will allow citizens to reduce the frequency of their administrative procedures.
To facilitate access to the service, enrollment centers will now be installed in several cities across the country, including Douala, Yaoundé, and Garoua. This decentralization will reduce travel and waiting times for citizens.
This new measure marks a significant step forward in the modernization of public services in Cameroon. It should help improve administrative efficiency and make life easier for citizens. However, while this reform is excellent news, challenges remain. It will be necessary to ensure that all Cameroonians can benefit from these new services, including those living in rural areas. Additionally, raising public awareness of the new procedures for obtaining the CNI is essential to ensure the success of this reform.
