On the 24th of December 2024, we lost a true icon and patriot, Honorable Peter Cho Fonso. Today, we mourn a fallen hero, a stalwart of the Social Democratic Front (SDF), and a tireless advocate for truth and development.
Hon. PC Fonso represented the Momo East constituency with unmatched dedication, championing the values of democracy and justice. He was a die-hard supporter of the SDF and a defender of the people, always striving to bring progress to his community. When the laws were changed to ensure gender representation in Momo East, he made a selfless decision to step aside for a woman candidate, demonstrating his commitment to fairness and inclusivity.
In his remarkable career, Hon. PC Fonso made history as the only parliamentarian from Meta, after the late Rt. Hon. ST Muna, to chair the National Assembly as its eldest member. His wisdom and leadership earned him respect far beyond his constituency.
At the age of 92, his departure calls not only for mourning but also for a celebration of a life well-lived. We will not simply bury Hon. PC Fonso; we will plant him in Meta, where his legacy will inspire generations to come. May more leaders like him rise from Meta to serve the people with the same passion, courage, and integrity.
Hon. PC Fonso now joins the ranks of other great SDF pioneers who have gone before him, including the late National Chairman Ni John Fru Ndi, Hon. Mbah Ndam Joseph, and Batonnier Sama Francis. Together, they leave behind a legacy of unwavering dedication to the people.
Go well, Daddy Honorable. Do not worry, for this is the path we all must take someday. Your legacy lives on in our hearts, and your contributions will never be forgotten.
Rest in Perfect Peace, Honorable Peter Cho Fonso.
