The women of Tiko Municipality have been urged to register their names on the electoral register, so as to be able to exercise their voting rights in the upcoming presidential elections in Cameroon.
The appeal was made by Ngomba Elmina, 2nd Deputy Mayor of Tiko Municipality last Saturday the 8 th of March 2025, during the celebration of the International Women’s Day in the gateway city held under the theme “ For All Women and Girls: Right, Equality and Empowerment”.
In line with the theme after presiding in the ceremony she told the press: “My
message to the women is that first the women should understand that they have given us equal rights so no woman should be left behind because I am a woman I cannot do it. I was telling them that we can make a change even to this presidential elections that is coming because we form the majority of the population in Cameroon so we should register so that we can decide on
person that will lead us because if all of us stand as one our choice will be the best”.
HRH Peter Ikome Mesoso, the mayor of Tiko, equally added his voice to that of his deputy mayor by calling on women to register their names on the electoral register. He noted: “All the women should go and register massively so that tomorrow if there is election women can say that no we are tired of this mayor, we don’t want him. The only way you will not want him is to cast
your vote and remove him. So the message goes that women should do what they can do to put themselves where they want to be”.
He encouraged the women exercise their civic rights.
The 40th Edition of International Women’s Day in Tiko was symbolic as it saw massive participation women, including women with disabilities beautifully dressed with their women’s day fabric. The massive turnout of women was applauded by the Sub delegate of Women’s Empowerment in Tiko, Kahndi Asanatou. Hence she noted: “Since 2016 like I heard women have never come out like this; it was a difficult task but God made it through”.
Also during the celebration, the Divisional Officer of Tiko, Voh Armstrong, announced that government has approved the construction of a women’s empowerment center in Tiko Sub-division. He told the women :“ I just have firsthand information that the Government has
approved the construction of Women Center in Tiko”. This announcement was lauded by the women together with the Sub delegate of Women’s Empowerment and the Family. She noted: “It is my cry since I came in Tiko crying for the Women Empowerment Center and today I have been assured that by next year something like that will go operational in Tiko”.
After the march past, some women visited leisure spots while others retired home to rest. The most prominent leisure spot which hosted women from the gate way Municipality, Limbe and other areas, was a modern restaurant along the Mutengene-Limbe road , which owned by the chief of Mutengene. Clementine Asonganyi expressed gratitude to God for a day set aside for women.
She said: “ First I want to thank God for this wonderful day that they gave us like women and then when I came here I thought I was in Europe.”.
The women are expected to register their names on the electoral register so as to exercise their civic rights.
