Modestine Tchatchouang Youzou, a Cameroonian from the diaspora, is ready to disburse 10 million FCFA if Prof. Maurice Kamto and Cabral Libii form a coalition. She made the surprising statement on social media about 14 days ago. During a live session, she announced her intention to offer a sum of 10 million FCFA if Maurice Kamto, leader of the Mouvement pour la Renaissance du Cameroun (MRC), and Cabral Libii, head of the Parti Camerounais pour la Réconciliation Nationale (PCRN), decide to form a coalition for the presidential elections scheduled for October 2025.
This gesture, according to Modestine Tchatchouang, aims to encourage a union of the Cameroonian opposition forces against the current regime. The goal is to strengthen the opposition’s chances of victory by consolidating the votes of two major figures in the Cameroonian political landscape. Maurice Kamto and Cabral Libii, although each has a large popular following, have so far operated in separate camps, which divides the electorate.
In her address, Modestine Tchatchouang emphasized the importance of unity and cohesion to achieve real political change in Cameroon. She urged the two leaders to set aside their differences in order to form a common front capable of competing with the ruling power.
It remains to be seen whether this call for a coalition will resonate positively with the two political figures.
