This decision was made on Friday, March 7, 2025, following a recent meeting between Eto’o and CAF President Patrice Motsepe in Gauteng, South Africa. The Confederation of African Football was also ordered to pay 8000 Swiss francs (approximately 5.5 million CFA francs) to Samuel Eto’o as compensation for legal fees related to this case.
This change in situation could strengthen Samuel Eto’o’s position in the race for a seat on the Executive Committee, with the election to be held during the Extraordinary General Assembly on March 12, 2025.
The CAS found that the initial exclusion of Samuel Eto’o from the list of candidates was unfounded and ordered his immediate reinstatement. This case highlights the dissensions within the CAF, which is regularly criticized for its lack of transparency.
