His Excellency Christopher J. Lamora, the Ambassador of the United States to Cameroon , was received yesterday Wednesday 12th of March 2015 by the Minister of Economy Planning and Regional Development, Alamine Ousmane Mey, to discuss key issues on how to boost Cameroon’s economy.
The closed-door audience which took about an hour was met with deliberations on how to help individuals who are in the informal sector get into the formal sector to assist in uplifting Cameroon’s economy.
H.E Christopher was extremely enthusiastic to meet with the minister to
talk through this important preliminary action.
His Excellency Christopher was accompanied by representatives of Azamra, an American
company which is working in the domain of financial technology. They been working in the country for some weeks in Yaounde and in Douala. The object of this company Azamra is to assist in delivering financial services to underserved micro, small and medium sized enterprises and
individuals. They also offer pecuniary services to millions and handout funding and digital tools to support MSMEs. Azamra is committed to fostering growth and advancing financial inclusion across the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC) region.
The US ambassador to Cameroon had some words for the press after the closed-door audience:
“I am really happy that we were able to come to the ministry of economy to meet with the Minister and members of his team together with an American company called Azamra which is in the financial technological services area (FINTECH), they have done some good preliminary work to see how we can encourage more people who are in the informal sector in Cameroon to get
more into the formal sector as there are millions of people in Cameroon who don’t currently participate in the formal banking sector and this is a way to help them and to help the economy of Cameroon to grow”.
In a nutshell, the US ambassador to Cameroon’s visit to MINEPAT was in a bid to accompany Azamra’s representatives see into elevating Cameroon’s economy.
