“Absentee MPs” of Batibo, Widikum resurface.
Techie Njie appeals for decentralization of UBa .
By George Etoh-Anzah in Bamenda.
Militants of the CPDM in Momo Division have reassured their daughter and elite, Minister Mbah Acha, of their unapologetic support in a wake of upcoming elections.
The reassuring words were part of a series of responses that were gotten as she made a homecoming to Mbengwi, chieftown of Momo Division. Paul Biya, national chairman of the CPDM party in March made public a list of militants to head affairs from the central committee, the highest political decision making arm of the party. The appointment featured Rose Mbah Acha, Minister delegate at the presidency in charge of supreme state audit and acting member of the central committee. By the appointment, Minister Acha fully assumes a role she has hitherto been at the helm, following the demise of Senator Zacharias Awanga. Friday April 25th saw hundreds turn out at the Mbengwi ceremonial grandstand to say welcome as well as applaud and channel their appreciations to the head of state for the renewed trust. The militants through a motion presented by Asongwed Emmanual, elite and state employee at the ministry of housing and urban development, expressed their satisfaction because ” the head of state has always considered Momo Division in entrusting key state sectors and political assignments to the Momo people. Momo division over the years counts the likes of Prof Tafah Edokat, pioneer VC of Uba; Matthew Akoko, GCE Board chair; Ama Tutu Muna, former minister of culture and member of bilingualism commission; Mbah Acha amongst many others who have always received preferential attention from the head of state, a mark of recognition which the elite and militants say deserves a huge thank you.
While addressing the militants, Minister Rose Mbah Acha sought to know from the attendees of the fate of the party in the wake of an eventual call to the polls . The response was unanimous as they insisted on a total vote for the ruling party and its candidate whoever it may be. In satisfaction she added:
” Your turnout and support is proof that while I do the hunting, I am sure with the proceeds there are empty mouths to be filled. I have not failed to play my part by providing jobs to many sons and daughters of Momo Division…I will not stop as long as you keep giving me your support”.
“Absentee” MPs resurface.
While many saluted the presence of well-known faces that have often kept close contact with their home population, it was however a semi cold response for the MPs of Batibo and Widikum. Honourable Awutah Philip and Anyere Charles have never for once for the past 5 years been present during the celebration of either 20th May and 11th February activities in their respective constituencies. While this cannot be said of Momo East, they also cannot boast of attending either 24th March or November 6th party activities. Their turnout is feared to be a pleaser to the party’s divisional head while many think it may be a political move to renew their aspirations.
Momo mayors appeal for reconciliation.
While addressing the mammoth crowd, Ubangoh Helly, spokesperson of the Momo mayors, did not fail to remind the appointee of a couple of issues worthy of torpedoing the desired results process. Amongst them was the need for reconciliation. Helly appealed to the appointee to “reconcile the party at the base”. “We urge you to reconcile the party at the base”, he said. Momo counts key members of the elite, many of whom were not present during the home coming. Though their absence cannot be linked to the internal disputes, its however imperative to underscore the dangers of disunity to a team that desires to succeed.
On the sidelines of the activity, Senator Fon Teche Njie made his “strange” appearance back home. He has since stayed away from numerous activities at party level. The latter though member of the central committee of the CPDM operates a low profile despite being a key political actor. Talking to The Horizon, Teche saluted the appointee scoring her a square peg in its hole with a huge experience. He however did not fail to renew his old call for the head of state to decentralize UBa and transfer the faculty of law and political science to Mbengwi.
Minister Mbah Acha, for her part, announced imminent works on the Bamenda-Mbengwi Road and the Acha-Njikwa Road. She insisted the contracts had been awarded and pending paper works.
This announcement was the height of announcements which elicited a massive applause and support, albeit in the hope of real manifestation as the said works especially that of Njikwa has often been a subject of promises with no concrete manifestation.
The elite also offered a horse to their party head, Paul Biya, to facilitate his campaigns. Mbah Acha said “Your excellency use this horse. With this, where vehicles cannot go, this horse will go and we will get the results”, she said..
