John Mokom, the CEO of Standard Chartered Bank Côte d’Ivoire who was recently found dead in his apartment, was actually killed by a hitman sent to end the Cameroonian’s life.
In a report, the Criminal Police of Côte d’Ivoire indicates that the murderer was unmasked and tracked down, then arrested.
“It was an arrest as spectacular as it was decisive: A S, the main suspect in the murder of the CEO of Standard Chartered Bank Côte d’Ivoire, was apprehended on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, in N’zianoua, while attempting to flee on a public transport bus.
The man, originally from a neighbouring country, had been actively sought since the grim discovery of the senior bank official’s body on April 8, in his apartment in Tower B of the ATTA building, in Plateau.
An intense manhunt was relentlessly conducted by the Directorate of Criminal Police, in close coordination with the territorial units of the BRI.
Daily Update99 quotes sources as saying the arrest was carried out with extreme discretion to avoid any leaks.
He will soon be questioned to establish the exact circumstances of the crime, as well as to identify any possible accomplices and reconstruct his escape route.
The Criminal Police, determined to shed full light on this case that is shaking the financial and diplomatic world, continues its investigation,” the report reads.
Let us recall that CEO John Mokom was found dead on April 9 in Abidjan.
North-West: 2 separatists fall again, significant stock of weapons seized
The army is bent on dealing with what they say is the last vestiges of Ambaboys resistance in the North West.
The 3rd Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR) of the North-West neutralized two separatist secessionists recognized as Ambazonian fighters. The operation conducted by the BIR on April 18, 2025, in Ntundip in the locality of Ndu, also led to the release of three hostages held by the separatists. Actu24, quoting some sources, said other suspected separatist fighters were also reportedly arrested. “The objective of the maneuver was to dismantle a separatist headquarters operating in the area. During the raid, two separatist elements were neutralized and three hostages held on site were freed,” a military official involved in the operation disclosed.
According to our sources, the operation, which is part of broader military efforts in response to the Anglophone crisis, led to the seizure of a significant stock of weapons and war equipment consisting of ammunition, grenades, military uniforms, and four motorcycles destroyed on site.
The forceful operation conducted by the special forces brings a glimmer of hope to the populations of this locality who have been living in fear since the beginning of the atrocities in 2016. The separatist movement has already caused several deaths, creating a psychosis within the societies of NOSO.
